Chitosan based edible biopolymer coating solution

While the entire globe is facing the challenges of low productivity and food paucity we lose at least 25% of food products due to post harvest damage. This post-harvest damage is more impacting the perishable fruits and vegetables. Due to transportation delay, seasonal changes, improper packing and storage causes the spoilage of fruits and vegetables. The major agriculture product spoilage is due to fungal and bacterial causing infections.

In order to control the post-harvest spoilage we have developed a unique technology to address the issue. We have developed an edible coating using our natural polysaccharide based polymer coating (Chitosan) for prevention from post-harvest decays. A unique natural polymer with a special feature of maintaining and extending the shelf life of fruits and vegetables about 15 days at room temperature.

This unique formulation spread uniformly all over the fruit or vegetable body makes a transparent coating through which the fruits respiration is reduced up to 80%. It also delay the ripening and maintain the original nature for prolonged duration. It is a 100% natural edible polymer purified from shrimp shell so non-toxic, biodegradable and biocompatible. It does not cause any changes to the taste or originality of the fruits and vegetables.

BIOCOAT can be also used for pre-harvest damage and spoil. It can be sprayed on the fruits and vegetables before harvest or after a final maturation this could be used for delaying the ripening.

After a gentle cleaning dipping the entire fruit or vegetable in to coating solution would give the best surface coating and excellent result up to 15 days.
